Project Type: Office extension Area (in sqm): 9,000
Location: City Quay, Dublin 2 Completion: 2004
This former grain store was converted into office accommodation in 1989. In 2003 KMD Architecture designed a vertical modern extension. While the architectural expression of the new build is contemporary it has a geometric strength that was required to contrast with the solid robustness of the original building. The overall form serves to relate the scheme to the higher neighbouring buildings that have been recently constructed. The top floor and a half creates a dramatic double height office environment flooded with light and the mezzanine floor is hung by stainless steel cables from the roof structure. |
